2CL Communications Ltd proud to be part of the Glasgow 2018 European Championships
In February 2018, 2CL Communications Ltd were awarded the contract to supply the two-way radio communications infrastructure, end user terminals and support for the Glasgow 2018 European Championships which took place in Scotland from the 2nd August until the 12th August 2018.
The championships saw over 3,000 athletes competing in six different sports over twelve different venues and festival sites.
2CL Communications supplied over 2,300 Motorola Solutions DP1400 & DP4400 digital radios and accessories which were in operation across the sites. For Knightswood Park (BMX Track), Royal Commonwealth Pool (Diving) and Scotstoun Sports Campus (Swimming), the radios operated on digital simplex channels with up to 16 channels in operation at each of the sites. We deployed more complex infrastructure in several of the other venues, for example we utilised the MOTOTRBO™ Capacity Plus system at the Strathclyde Country Park (Rowing and Triathlon) and The Sir Hoy, Velodrome (Track cycling) to be able to give them the functionality required. Our biggest challenge was deploying a MOTOTRBO™ Linked Capacity Plus system to obtain radio coverage for the road cycling events. For example, the time trial course, which was a distance of 45kms, starting at the Riverside Museum and finishing at Glasgow Green after passing via Strathblane, Lennoxtown and the City of Glasgow.
Throughout the championships we deployed two dedicated roaming support teams, each team of four 2CL staff were on call 24/7 to support all the sites in case of any technical issues or ad hoc requests for additional equipment. During this time the roaming teams also had a dedicated support team based at our head office in Hampshire, to be able to assist with last minute changes or requests from the client.
2CL Communications Ltd completed the project on time and within budget and are proud to have been a part of the success of the inaugural European Championships 2018.
“It was an honour and privilege to provide the two-way radio communications for the inaugural Glasgow 2018 European Championships. This was our first multi-venue, multi-sport championships, and I am proud of all the 2CL staff involved. It was a major success! Garrick Gregory – CEO
