West Bromwich Albion has replaced their two-way radio infrastructure at The Hawthorns with a digital Hytera XPT system, designed, supplied, and installed by 2CL. A fleet of 200 handsets, provided on a five-year fully managed hire contract, now keeps matchday operations and security teams connected across the stadium.

The project marks a significant step forward in how the club manages communications on event days. The previous analogue setup has been replaced with a system built on Hytera’s XPT (Extended Pseudo Trunking) platform, a digital trunking technology that increases network capacity by upgrading existing repeater infrastructure. In practical terms, this means more users can communicate clearly at the same time, across both voice and data channels, without the congestion and clarity issues that analogue systems can suffer from under heavy load.

“The radios offer greatly improved clarity and reliability since they were installed in December, and the support we have received has been second to none.”

Howard Lewis Jones, Head of Security and Matchday Operations, West Bromwich Albion

The 200 radios are used across matchday operations, security, and stewarding teams, giving staff at all levels a reliable link throughout the ground. The fully managed contract means West Bromwich Albion benefit from ongoing support from 2CL for the life of the agreement, with maintenance and service built in from day one.

The managed hire model is well suited to venues and clubs that need professional-grade communications without the capital outlay of outright purchase. 2CL handled every stage of the installation, from system design through to commissioning and handover.
