With the introduction of the ATEX Directive '03, it became mandatory for all equipment designed for use in hazardous environments to meet the new ATEX standards.
In light of this, Motorola have added ATEX approved Professional Series Hand Portable Radios to their portfolio which are fast becoming the benchmark for Intrinsically Safe radio solutions.
The Motorola GP340 EX, GP380 EX and GP680 EX radios adopt all current Professional Series features as standard including Trunking capabilities and 'Lone Worker' facility. This coupled with a classification for dust protection which no alternative products have achieved, and a Li-Ion battery delivering 16 hrs talktime, this radio makes it easy to find a solution suited to your organisation's operation.

ATEX Standard
The ATEX Directive is the current European Union standard applied to equipment use within potentially explosive atmospheres. It not only considers potentially explosive concentrations of gas, vapor or mist in the air, but also concentrations of dust, for both electrical and mechanical sources of ignition.

The aim of an Intrinsically Safe piece of equipment is to ensure that the electrical or thermal energy available in a circuit is insufficient to ignite a potentially explosive mixture of gas and air under normal or specified fault conditions.
Varying potentially explosive gases require differing amounts of energy for ignition and are grouped accordingly.The specifications for these standards are compiled by varying laboratories who each issue their own certification. The user should then satisfy themselves as to the suitability of their equipment.

The HT900 ATEX Radio is classed; E Ex I b II C T3, and includes many of the same features as the Motorola Atex Series with one major difference - it is the only ATEX approved submersible product on the market.
